Physical Images Narrative Use this field to attach your narrative about the site. The place I was curious to visit in the Living New Deal was the Sanitary Sewer System in Fairfax VA. I was interested because I have lived in this area basically my entire life and have never known that our sewer system was created during the New Deal. This project was first begun in the Great Depression, specifically 1936-1937. The Public Works Administration only granted $44,956 to the project which caused a lot of back-lash such as strikes and postponing construction due to the fact that the amount of money needed for this type of project is around $100,088. Having to raise the rest of the money took a longer time than expected and thus delayed the final product, this is bad obviously because a town needs a working sewer system to avoid the spread of diseases. I took photos of the surrounding area however there was no entry way to the sewers themselves. I did speak to a couple Fairfax locals who said the stone and cement used in the original making of these sewers is still intact and running properly with no known problems since it was completed.
