Images of Music

This image is of an ordinary American musician impacted by the Great Depression and displaced by the Dust Bowl. While not too much is known about John Stone, we do know that he went in search of wealth and prosperity in California like so many others of his time. As we can see in the above images, Stone could play the violin. Even during such troubling times, people need to be entertained and Americans in the 1930s were no exception. The glitched shows a distorted image of the violin, but a clear image of the man’s eyes. While he looks aged as shown by his wrinkles and certainly experienced, there is also a hint of peace within his eyes, as if the music of the violin is his reprieve from his troubles. One thing the Depression and Dust Bowl couldn’t take away from Americans was their talent and love for enjoying good music.
