Blog Post and Skill Assignment Guidelines

Blog Posts will count for 30% of your grade. In each post, you are expected to write 350-500 words with at least two citations from the readings in class. Each post will be graded on a 3-point scale based on the following criteria:

  • 3 points: You have met the word count and citation requirements, engaged meaningfully with the course material, and offered your own perspective or argument on the subject matter rooted in our class discussions.

  • 1.5 points: You have met the word count and citation requirements and have engaged somewhat with the course material but have not offered a strong perspective or argument.

  • 0 points: You either did not meet the word count or citation requirements, did not engage with the materal or make an argument, or both.

Skill Assignments will count for 40% of your grade. Each assignment will have its own specific requirements listed in the course schedule and explained in class. Each assignment will be graded on a 5-point scale based on the following criteria:

  • 5 points: You show an understanding of the tool or skill under assessment and used it to engage meaningfully with a historical theme or question.

  • 2.5 points: You show an understanding of the tool or skill under assessment, but did not fully connect it with a historical themes or question.

  • 0 points: You neither understood the tool in question nor used it to engage with historical themes or questions.
