Lastly, I used mapping to follow the expanse of the Federal Theater Project. A lot of the news and information on the Federal Theater Project is based out of New York City but, I wanted to explore how it affected each part of the United States. So, I researched many different productions in all regions of the US. What I learned was more on the dark side of the Federal Theater Project. Many productions that had all-Black casts or any members of color were shut down even after receiving rave reviews. Many people reported that the Federal Theater Project was the most diverse or the most accepting and it’s very sad to see that most times, the WPA did not keep their promise to the Negro Units around America. But, the wide array of cities does convey a positive light of the Federal Theater Project’s success. Thousands of people were able to witness the representation of people of color on stage and see them in leads and director positions, even if just for a night.
