Word Association

Using the corpos that had previously been assembled during class,I created a series of word clouds that allowed me to look at words that are commonly associated with Negro, Mexican, and American. Interestingly, the words that where commonly associated with Black Americans where less derogatory than those associated with Mexican Americans. Words like stealing and bandit appeared more regularly in conjuction with Mexican and help to provide greater understanding about how people where being talked about by the government and by other Americans.

Conversly the American word cloud was much more general and did not seem to include and racial prerequisites. It also underscored that although many racial groups were being othered, they where still in some large ways considered American.
