Introduction

This exhibit explores the question "How was travel integral to Americans during the New Deal and the 1930s?" Through use of digital tools, I hope to argue that travel presented the American people with expecations of better opportunities, a revitalized desire for new forms of entertainment (as well as the means to obtain such), and a stronger sense of self and pride in being an American. Travel became a way for the people of this country to escape a difficult time, either momentarily or indefinitely in order to provide a chance of a better life. These arguments will be displayed through using image annotation, timeline, and story mapping.
