Image Annotation: The Dust Bowl

Oklahoma farm

The image above shows the state of the farms throughout the Middle West area of the United States, after the crops had dried up and became a product similar to dust (Fanslow, 1998). Farmers packed up their belongings, their families, and their entire lives to travel across the country in search of a better work opportunity and a higher quality of life. This provides a visual for the initial push of travel in the 1930s, and a beginning point of my exploration of this topic.
