Timeline: The Travels of Alan and John Lomax

The travels of the individual can bring to others a new realization. John and Alan Lomax, employed by the government through the Federal One Project, traveled around the country with a plan to rediscover vernacular music and introduce it into the mainstream culture of American music (Filene, 2000). They traveled separately through the Southern states and the Upper Middle West states to capture a different culture that had been to that point unheard of by the masses. This trip helped to reshape the concept of American music, and showcased to the people of the country the different ways that entertainment can be experienced as a means to express yourself.
