Conclusion

How did the role of women in society change with the onset of the Great Depression? They went to work in greater numbers. Everyone thinks that women went to work during World War II, and it is true that the majority of manufacturing and defense jobs were taken over by women, but in reality that trend began during the 1930's. Three million women joined the workforce, and a photo of a migrant mother became the defining photo of the decade. Frances Perkins became the first woman ever named to a cabinet position. In times of hardship, people do what they can to survive, whether it's taking an office job, or moving across the country with just the clothes on your back in the hope of finding a job. Eleanor Roosevelt shouldn't be ignored. Much of her husband's success, popularity, and ability to reach the American people was facilitated by her going to work. Women in the 1930's grew, and survived. I used image annotation to give pointed commentary on certain photos and larger issues attached to them. I used glitching to give a different perspective, and finally I used the timeline tool to show a detailed track of the accomplishments and facts of women's growth over the 1930's.
