Timeline: Women in the 30's
The timeline is a valuable tool to use when tracking the statistics of employment, and the great strides that women made in politics in the 1930's. For example, the percentage of women employed actually rose over the decade, as opposed to dropping. More women were working as a direct reaction to the economic situation. Hallie Flanagan and Frances Perkins were named as the first women in their positions. Frances Perkins as the Secretary of Labor, and Hallie Flanagan as head of the Federal Theatre Project. Eleanor Roosevelt was one of the most outspoken feminisit politicians of the twentieth century, and one of the mose progressive First Ladies of the twentieth century.
