Glitched Image: Working Women

original.jpg

Office and secretarial work has traditionally been more female oriented, and during the Depression, many women took jobs outside the home in order to support themselves, and their families.

The glitched photo centers the women, making them all the focus of the photo, but especially focusing on the woman in front of the shelves of document boxes. While secretary work was a female dominated field, and still is, I don't think it should be disregarded when considering the rise of female employment.

Image glitching provides a visible change in perspective on photos. This can trigger a different thought process when considering the historical significance of photos and events. I used glitching to try and change the view of the photo. Rather than just being a flat photo of women working in an office, it brings more dimension to the photo and gives more focus to the woman in front of the filing cabinet. Secretarial and office work, and the women who do it may be somewhat looked down on now, but it was very important in the rise of women in the workplace.
